I wanted to take a moment to send a wholehearted thank you for thinking of me when the opportunity with the Foundation came along. This job's duties and environment are a great fit for me, and I know without a doubt that they wouldn't have even considered my application had I simply submitted my resume.

When I started with Preference, I was only there because I needed a paycheck and I couldn't afford to wait for a half-decent job to land in my lap; I didn't actually expect it to present an opportunity for fulfilling permanent work, to be honest. I moved back to Fargo from St. Cloud in April 2006 after experiencing a second job loss in less than 5 years due to downsizing. I actively spent nearly every waking hour searching for work. During my search, I happened upon an ad for a position posted by Kara. I contacted her, made an appointment to come in to register and do some computer skills testing, and that’s when I had the pleasure of meeting Kara!

She arranged for me to interview for the position I’d inquired about, but I did NOT get the job. These ups and downs that usually come with job hunting can be extremely discouraging. I allowed myself to “sulk” for a short time but then picked myself back up and continued my search.

It wasn’t until late July when I came across another ad that interested me, again posted by Kara. I e-mailed her expressing my interest and inquiring about further details. She again was able to arrange an interview for me, but at that point, I’d had so many disappointments that I truly didn’t have much expectation. BUT…….I was IMPRESSED from the very start of this interview and grew more and more interested as we talked. Afterwards I concluded that this was one of those FEW jobs that I was VERY EXCITED about and not just a “so-so” job for a paycheck!

This was on a Wednesday and I had to wait until the following Monday to hear their decision. I’d tried NOT to get my hopes up too high and just continued looking and applying. THEN………..a phone call from Kara!!! I’ll never forget, it was a Monday afternoon and she asked if I was sitting down. I GOT THE JOB!!!!!!! I was literally jumping up & down in my kitchen in absolute disbelief!!!!!

In hindsight ~ my advice to anyone unemployed or searching for work ~ DON’T PANIC ~ BE PROACTIVE ~ BE PATIENT ~ DON’T GIVE UP ~And I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you………..REGISTER WITH PREFERENCE PERSONNEL IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!!

It was a touchy situation and working at the company for only a year, I looked like a "job hopper." Kara assured me it was something we could deal with and there were better opportunities in the job market. I have a little extra time before our nice holiday break here at **** College. I did find a job in September here as the associate director of annual giving. I get to work with the arts and athletic programs, participate and plan socials and events, and coordinate other interesting projects. I am writing in part to wish you and Preference Personnel a happy holiday season and to thank you for the opportunities you gave me during the past few years.

No matter if I was home for a summer or a holiday break from college, Preference found me temporary positions to help pass the time. These work experiences gave me a broad foundation of office and people skills. I can say the following regarding my temporary work experiences provided by Preference: I am an expert level Microsoft Office user, I can drop what I’m doing to go on an office supply or even a baby clothes errand, I recognize the value of communication and timeliness, I know how to deal cards for a game of Texas Hold ‘Em, I have realized the field of work I want to be in, Care Giver Dogs don’t respond to me unless I have a treat for them, and that continued work is necessary not only to pay the bills, but to enhance a resume. I would like to highlight the last statement as one of the reasons I was hired for my current position. The fact that I held consistent work experience throughout and after college impressed my superiors. The jobs may have been different, but Preference Personnel was a constant.

Sometimes you and your co-workers have a difficult job. You have to deal with unhappy employers, and yes, even unhappy workers. In accord, this letter is to remind you that what you do is important to those who come to you for your assistance and information. I truly appreciate the time you spent in finding me continued work and giving me the experiences listed above. Once again, have a great holiday season. I never thought at my age I would, or ever could, find the perfect job, but with your help, it has happened.  Who would have ever imagined that at my age (49 and holding), I would change job fields completely and find one that is perfect for me.

The job you found for me pays well, has very good benefits, and the best part is that I have January and February off. As you know, for the past 2 decades, I have spent the majority of February visiting my aging parents while they were wintering in warmer climates and was doubtful that I would be able to continue to do this.

The company that hired me has been so very gracious, kind and helpful. They purchased a new office chair for me, as the other one was too large and somewhat uncomfortable. When I stated to my supervisor how happy I was that they hired me, he stated, “We are the happy ones.” 

I believe that “everything happens for a purpose,” and when I called you on Tuesday, July 5, 2005, and stated I no longer desired to work in the field I was currently in and to please help me find something else, I never imagined that 3 days later I would be offered a job by such a wonderful company. Your test program for Microsoft Word and Excel sharpened my skills and improved my keyboarding speed and accuracy. You have placed me in an office with wonderful co-workers and supervisors. For this, I am truly grateful!

I went to Preference Personnel after searching on and off again for a job on my own for several years. I considered myself hard to place because I had entered a specialized field of employment as a 911 dispatcher. My education and work experience was that of legal secretarial/assistant. I wanted to return to the private sector as a legal assistant. Having been away from the workforce in this area for nearly 10 years, I knew that employment would be difficult to find for me.

The staff, Candice especially, gave me the tools and advice I needed to go into the interview process with the utmost confidence. They also provided me with dos and don’ts for the interview process, such as what to wear and what questions to ask.

Being someone who does not have a college education it seemed like a losing battle trying to get certain companies to even consider looking at my resume. The main thing about Preference Personnel is that they believed in me and helped me get a job with a company that put me in a position to have the job that I have today.  I think the staff at Preference Personnel must be gamblers, because they took a gamble and a chance on placing me in a position that was the answer to what I was looking for.

The dedication of the staff and personal assistance they provide is a refreshing change in a world where everyone you meet seems to concentrate on their own best interests. Preference Personnel gave me an opportunity to provide for my family in a way that doesn’t involve breaking my back in the construction industry anymore, which is a noble trade that I was in for many years. I owe many thanks to Preference Personnel. My family and I would not be in the position we are today if it were not for Candice and her staff. If I could sum up the whole experience I would say that, “Preference Personnel is large enough to make the connections to find you the job you want, and small enough to still care.”
